| Hainan Province, which is called “Qiong” for short, is the largest special zone in China and also the second largest island in China with a coastline of 1584.8 kilometers. It lies in the south of China. To the east is South China Sea; to the south is Philippines and Malaysia; and to the west is Beibu Gulf. Hainan Province covers an area of 34,000 square kilometers. It includes Hainan Island, Xisha, Nansha, Zhongsha islands. The beautiful Water Park and Summer Resort are attributed to the comfortable weather and excellent beaches. Some ethnic groups, including Han, Li and Miao, live the island all over the year. Especially the customs of Li attracts tourists.
Hainan Weather
Hainan Island is a tropical monsoon oceanic climate. The basic characteristics of the four seasons are not clear. There’s no heat in summer and no cold in winter with high annual average temperature. The dry and rainy seasons are obvious: so arid in spring and winter; full of rains and tropical cyclones in summer and autumn. This island is rich in light, heat and water resources. However, the wind, drought, cold and other weather disasters often happen frequently.
Hainan Island Natural Resources
In the coastal plain, people often cultivate crops and sugarcane. In addition, the fragrance of tropical fruits spread widely all over the year. Hainan has been called the “Natural Greenhouse and Tropical Orchard”. The area of tropical plants and fruit cultivation occupies so large with different kinds. In 1996, the growing area of tropical fruit was 89,900 hectares; the harvest area was 36,600 hectares; and the output was 361,600 tons. Betel nut (槟榔), Yizhi (益智), Sharen (砂仁) and Baji (巴戟) are the four major ones, whose output accounted for national 99.9%. The total area of tropical crops was 429,000 hectares, of which the pepper, coffee and cashew accounted for 77%, 63% and 90% in 1997.
Hainan has abundant rubber, sugarcane, coconut, coffee, pepper, betel nuts and other tropical crops; coconut, jackfruit, pineapple, litchi, mango, bananas, rambutan (红毛丹), eggs fruit (鸡蛋果), sapodilla, water syzygium (水蒲桃) and other fruit; and thousands of rare tropical plants that improving from other countries, such as Durian, Myrsine (铁力木), Cinchona and Stapf (香茅草).
Hainan Tourism
The fresh air, sunlight, green vegetation, golden beach, clear and warm water and other unique tourist resources are not only ranked first in China, but also on the international front rank. Hainan Provice includes Haikou City, East Coast, West Coast, Wuzhi Mountain (Five Fingers Mountain), Sanya City and Qionghai City. Different city has different beautiful sceneries. Remotest End of the Earth (天涯海角), Bay of Greater East Sea (大东海), Coconut Tree Groves in Dongjiao County (东郊椰林), Monkeys Island at Nanwan (南湾猴岛), Yalong Bay (亚龙湾), Deer Looked Back (鹿回头), Memorial Temple of Five Lords (五公祠) and the Southern Pillar (南天一柱) are the most popular scenic spots that many domestic and foreign guests are looking forward to touring. The tropical forests, Center of Touring Stockade Villages of the Li and Miao Peoples, tropical crops, rural scenery, the Tomb of Hairui and Dongpo’s College leave a deep impression on tourists and make them forget to return when touring these beautiful sceneries.
Due to the comfortable weather, Hainnan is a good place for tourists to be away from a hot place. Tourists here can enjoy some entertainment: rowing boats, diving, swimming, enjoying the sunlight, playing volleyball on the beach and so on.
