China Fujian Tea

FuJian Province Econoy & Tourism

Fujian is one of the first provinces in China opened to outside world and, authorized by the Central Government. It has implemented a series of experimental measures for comprehensive reforms towards the establishment of a socialist market economic mechanism. Fujian is a major home town for overseas Chinese and Taiwan compatriots. 8 million overseas Chinese, 800 thousand compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao and 80% of Taiwan compatriots have all traced their ancestral homes to Fujian.

Fujian China is an ideal place for tourism, enjoying a rich culture and offers numerous sites of historical and cultural interests. It is also an important province for forestry and fishery, boasting a forest coverage rate of 57.3% and half of the fish species in China .With a mild climate and green all year round, Fujian is endowed with abundant water resources ,a long coastline and rich mineral deposits.

Fujian Tea Varieties

Tea is a local feature of Fujian province. Fujian mountain tea is famous world wide. The production of Fujian tea has a time-honored history. According to the written record found at the moment, it has a history lasting well over 1,600 years.The earliest written record of tea production in Fujian is kept on a stone tablet at the Lian Hua Feng (Lotus Peak) in Nan'an County. The name of the tablet is "Lian Hua Cha Jin" (Lotus Flower Tea Dress) inscribed in 376 A.D.In the Tang dynasty, tea sage Lu Yu in his book "Tea Classics" noted: Tea is grown south of the Five--Ridge Mountains, in Fuzhou, Jianzhou, Shaozhou and Xiangzhou.' (Chapter Eight; Its Origin).

Fujian Province takes an important position in China to produce all the five categories of tea-black, green tea, oolong tea, white and scented tea. With the exception of green tea ,all the others were pioneered by Fujian.

Lapsang Souchong (black) and white tea are Fujian Province's unique specialities.The world famous Fujian Oolong tea has been introduced to some other regions. Scented tea, especially the jasmine tea, is benefited by the good natural environment, high quality flowers and suitable tea leaves cured green for being scented. So,it takes a leading position on the list of all jasmine tea in the country. Aslo it is important in the world market of scented tea. There are 336 varieties of tea trees in Fujian province, ranking first throughout China and is therefore considered a treasury of the country's tea species.

Excellent trees and craftsmanship as well as the abundant supply of raw material make it possible for Fujian to push out many well-known brands of tea such as Anxi Tieh-kwan-yin (iron Bodhisattva), Huangdan, Wuyi Rocky, Silver Tip Pekoe, Tianshan green, Jasmine Minhao, etc. All of these have been awarded 'the national famous tea award' in China. Another 13 brands won the title of Fine-quality Product at the Ministerial level and 35 brands the title of Fine -quality Product at the provincial level.
