Upon visiting Hong Kong, there are certain things that every visitor should make sure that he or she sees. The Hong Kong Museum of History is the first of those things. It will give you a good appreciation and understanding of the history of the city and the country – this will help you understand many of the other things that you will see in the country.
The Hong Kong Museum
The museum does a good job of chronicling the history of city, beginning all the way back in the very beginning, from the geographical formation to the first Neolithic inhabitants to the days when it was a fishing village and all the way though to today. You will find exhibits that show and explain all of the different groups that made up Hong Kong, including the Tanka, Hakka, and the Five Great Clans.
There is so much more at the museum – theaters playing documentaries, a fishing junk, and more. You will want to spend a minimum of several hours at the museum.
Stanley Market
Take a walk through Stanley Market where you can see a number of vendors, shops, cafes, and then grab lunch at one of many the restaurants in the area.
You will also find quite a few other great markets in the city, including some that offer a more traditional feel. The night markets are something that you will definitely want to check out.
The Peak
Take a trip to the top of The Peak for an unparalleled view of the city. Ride 1200 feet up the Peak Tram and then walk around the top. Make sure that you brings a camera with you because the views of the skyline are treasures that you will definitely want to capture.
Aberdeen Harbor
Aberdeen Harbor is the home of hundreds of people who live on fishing junks and make their living from the sea. This offers an interesting look at the lives of the people who live and work on these boats, and you will want to see the harbor at night as well. The junks are lit up and look quite beautiful on the water.
Also located in Aberdeen Harbor is Ocean Park, an aquatic theme park that features a number of marine creatures and shows. This place is sure to be a hit with the whole family.
