6:30am I received a wake up call from the hotel, and by 6:45 I was at the hotel entrance waiting for a ride to the airport which was only 2 minute drive away. Several hotel guests got into the van that came and we were off to the departure section of Chengdu Airport.
At then main check in area are small shops for fruits, magazine, newspapers etc.
Security check-in at the Chengdu Airport – there was a short line up at the security check. Chengdu airport probably has one of the most relaxed security check-in process of all the airports I’ve been to. They didn’t require me to unpack my laptop like most other airports.
After passing through the security check, I headed down the B departure gates section. Along the two sides of the wide hallway are various clothing, magazine, and luggage stores. There was also a BWM lifestyle store.

I headed to departure gate B2 for my flight to Harbin. It was located on the main floor, at one of those gates where you have to take a bus to get to the plane, so I headed down a flight of stairs. It was around 7:15am. At the waiting area, there was a small restaurant that didn’t have a name other than “restaurant” in Chinese.
This was one expensive bowl of noodles and Evian water.
I ordered a bowl of beef noodles, which cost $36 yuan, and a bottle of Evian spring water for $28yuan - pretty pricey even by North American standards. You can expect to pay this much at most airports in China. The beef noodle wasn’t even that good. The stewed beef was alright, but the noodle was kind of tasteless. I should’ve just waited for my free meal on the air plane.
Our plane took off at 8:15 sharp, and made a stop-over at Jinan airport after a 2 hour flight. There was a 30 minute break to pick up some more passengers flying to Harbin, and we were on our way again.
